nemmind, sometimes they end up being silly: Bidding on a copy of pagemaker
6.5 (now out-of-date, but nowhere near as out of date as my version 4) went
to 82 quid this morning. Which looks silly as you can buy, from the states,
including 48 bucks for "expedited" shipping, a brand new copy, sealed and
unused, for about $98. which is about 53 quid. daft bastards were in a
bidding frenzy.

for about 70 bucks (plus shipping) I could've had version 7, but I was a tad
leery of the company supplying same. Bearing in mind it's current release
software, which Adobe sell for about $500, where do they get it that they
can sell it for $49.99 ($20 surcharge for a CD) to download it.

the other lot are selling last years, prolly surplus stock, for $49.99,
which is a bit more credible, and also appears to be new sealed boxes, so
prolly legit.

Auctions are like that, maybe a little less so face-to-face. Though my
father can tell a few stories about the cattle markets in the Midlands.
Maybe eBay is a little too quick sometimes.

I think your suspicions are reasonable.

You may well end up paying a few percent import duty, and VAT on the
whole (including postage charges), though you can get lucky if it's not
much above the duty-free limit.

I've bought quite a few items as "download only", but the sources have
been the creator: models for 3D CGI. Some of the "free" models floating
around seem to have lost their maker's name, though where I've found the
original it does seem to be genuinely a free item.

Trouble it, there's a lot of geeks out there who want to produce pin-ups
and porn, and they don't want the hassle of sweet-talking a real woman
into adopting _that_ pose. So some of the 3D-model sites get lumped in
with the porn industry.

Which may lead to having to buy a Land Rover from a porn site. Which
seems weird.
