Hi There,
I have a X Reg (00) Range Rover with a V8 engine. I am told that there is a dipstick for the gearbox under the bonnet could anybody confirm that there is a dipstick tell me where to find it under the bonnet.

Kind Regards

Dave

Have you got a manual or an auto box, Don't know about the manual but on the auto look at the back of the engine compartment and slightly offset towards the passenger side, and you will se a red/orange dipstick , this is the gearbox dipstick.

Hi Dave,

As you have a 2000 Range Rover it wont have a dipstick. They did away with them in 1999.

To check the level you will need to get underneath and open up the filler plug and check the level that way.

do you have RAVE??

I don't like that idea!
you wont know your fluid is too low until its low enough to give you trouble!
in an ideal world theres no reason for it to go down but leaks happen! i mean it is a Land Rover after all and i did hear if you have a Land Rover that dont drip its empty!

Valid point about progress. I have a 4.0 S Type Jaguar, as well as the P38 and TD4, which doesnt have a gearbox dipstick and last year it had to have a new gearbox at 27,000 miles costing £2,800, although it wasn't due to lack of oil. In any case its worth checking. Thanks God for the warranty!
