Does anyone have any ideas on this one. The car overheated in Switzerland on our way to Corfu. The garage said it was the thermostat and replaced it. However fifty miles down the road it did it again and was then diagnosed that the viscous fan needed replacing which was done.
They also tested the fumes in the expansion tank and said it was clear.
However now the car does'nt overheat but the temperature guage flicks between the middle of the guage and into the red and back again. I also have a book symbol showing on the hevac screen.
I am at a loss as what to do next can anyone throw some light onto this for me.

Andy.

Welcome to LZ. You might be better posting in the RR forum down below. One thing to check though, when refilling the coolant you must disconnect the hose from the top of the radiator to the expansion tank, blow through it to clear it, fill with coolant until it comes out of the top of the rad and refit the hose. Failure to do this can result in an airlock and cause symptoms similar to those you described.

I would have the engine temperature checked when hot by the garage to give you peace of mind. Hand held device or similar.

Temperature guage is controlled by a sensor and the BECM connector 19 from sensor x14, the BECM then sends signal to the guage.

Rave manual E1 page4

If temperature is normal and guage flicks then suspect wiring, sensor, guage or BECM.

In order for it to flick the signal must change quickly and it can't do that by temperature only with an electrical fault.

I hope this helps

Good luck

Fred

may sound a bit silly to say but may be worth checking engine/battery/chassis earths for continuity! may be a false warning due to low voltage, may be?

Thanks to you all for your help so far no probs. however does   anyone have any ideas on the book symbol on the hevac system. it does'nt come on until you've driven the car for about twenty mins or longer.
