Hi,
I’m new to the forum and have just recently bought a 2004 L322 Vogue. One of the problems being experienced is there is interference on the passenger side speakers when you switch the vehicle on and it continues when the vehicle is started. Radio, etc does work but evidently you have to turn it up very loud to drown out the interference!! I’ve tried all connection on equipment in the boot for corrosion and cleaned up as necessary and covered with WD40 but no real change. Amp issue?? I also have a problem with the door mirrors moving about in what should be the fixed position.
I’m sure these are not new problems in the Range Rover world and would appreciate any help. I also have a P38 which presently runs trouble free and has done for over 6 years. The L322 is evidently more complex than my other passion which is Hillman Imps!! Any help much appreciated. Hopefully I’ve now got this in the right forum?

WD40 on the connectors:eek: That will do not good at all.
Are you talking about speakers in the doors? If so, check the connectors to the speakers in the doors and do not use WD40 on them, you need contact cleaner such as Aeroclene or Servisol.

Datatek thanks, wIll try that but I’ll have to get a tin first. I thought WD40 was the be all and end all! With the exception of duct tape of course!

I’ve only had the front door card off to try and sort the mirror (without success) seems to be that the motor isn’t holding it in position. The front speaker connections all appeared good i.e. no signs of corrosion and it is one from which the interference comes so I was thinking it’s either the amp or a line connection somewhere but I’m no expert on how to test these things out.

I’d read somewhere that there are connector blocks somewhere in the passenger footwell that are subject to corrosion - do you know if this is a possibility?

I believe on the l322 the cabling runs in a channel under the carpet in the front foot well and its been know to fill with water and cause a few problems.

Thanks guys. The sat nav appears to work in that I can input a start and destination but I haven’t heard it give directions yet as I haven’t tried driving down the road yet. I disconnected the wire from the connector at the amp which runs to the passenger front door speaker and this significantly reduced the interference but it is still in the rear speakers which are somewhat more difficult to disconnect as they are fed via the large connector (with circular female terminal). I haven’t got my head around all the ‘boxes’ in the passenger side of the boot yet to see what I can isolate without adversely affecting the operation of other equipment. I’ll have another try on Sat to see if I can make any headway

WD 40 in the blue can is water dispersant. WD (water dispersant) 40 (40th formula) It was originally made to protect rocket nose cones from rust. It dries to produce a waterproof layer that repels moisture. It is not suitable for cleaning contacts. Unless you use it to displace moisture then wash if off with contact cleaner.

Warmers thanks for the technical info on WD40 which I didn’t know!! I did know it dispersed water but was unaware it dried to produce a waterproof layer.

Dippypud - whilst no expert on the matter I would have thought that any issue with the aerial/signal input would show across the whole system. At present the speakers on the drivers side are all working fine without interference??

Your last comment is correct.

Some progress - I disconnected the near side front door speaker at the 26 pin connector block at the amp and also the drivers side front door, I then connected the near side speaker wires to the drivers side terminal points in the connector block and I now have interference in the drivers door speaker. My thinking is that the interferences to the speakers on the left had side of the vehicle is coming from the amp. I’m not sure if there is anything else I can do other that strip the amp down again and use proper contact cleaner as opposed to WD40. I had used WD40 when I stripped the amp and cleaned up areas that were showing signs of corrosion due to water ingress so I’ll revisit.

Good man.

Sorry guys - suspected sunstroke here as weather has been really good - previous post was incorrect for those that were thinking what’s this twit at!!!! I actually connected the drivers door speaker to the connection pins for the left hand speaker at the terminal block hence interference in drivers door speaker. I don’t know enough about the amp circuitry but I have interference in all speakers on the near side.
