Pull the radio out of it's slot (you'll need 3 of them U shape things) and check the ariel connection on the back, if that is ok, check the element (it's the panel that looks like a heated screen in the offside rear window)

If none of that works, try rigging up a temporary ariel whilst you have the radio out of ot's slot (a length of coax cable connected to (yep you got it) a metal coat hanger will work fine) and see if this improves the reception, if it does, then it could be the set is fluxed !!

if it is a stock radio then you will need 2.5mm allen key not u shaped tools.
i found this out the hard way.

So, you're saying it is held in by 4 No allen screws ?

That's interesting, mine is def them U tool things, and mine is a '04 TD5, in fact one of the very last to be built in '04

yes found this out when the telephone kit was fitted through the stereo. after an hour of bending and pushing wire and coathangers we contacted l/r, 2.5mm allen key was the answer.
mine is the standard stereo not the hk should that make a difference.
