Hi folks.
I had to cut off the bolts on my rear suspension top link, so the non threaded part of the bolt is now within the link. I got 3 of the 4 out, but the final one is just now budging! I do not currently have the option to heat it, but that may need to come.

The hydraulic press I have has a wide (1 inch dia) foot on it, so I have been trying various ways to put a bolt between the ram and the bolt I am trying to push out. Despite supporting the 'pushing bolt' with sockets etc, it inevitably leans to the side and kicks out.

Any suggestions? Is there a safe way to adapt a press so I can have a 'punch' rather than a large surface area?

You need to make a mandrel with both the major and minor diameters on it.

Start off with a really short piece of rod just to get it moving the first few millimetres. That way it's less likely to bend or spring out. Then you can use longer bits once the offending item is under way and there's some of the hole to pop them into to get them started.
