1997 300 tdi, got a problem been doing it for awhile but about to put new rubber on so need to fix it before then, the last years under normal driving (accelerating/deccelarating/free wheeling) the car vers to the left, the steering wheel wants to turn itself to the left and getting tire wear to pnly the outside edge of the passenger side front, no wear on drivers side tire. checked for any play in all front wheel and swivel bearings and found nothing, had mot advisories of slight play in passenger side drop and drag link ball joints, replced both yesterday and its still pulling to the left, only 2 things left i can think of is either the tracking out or,developed a leak from passenger side brake caliper piston a week ago, not sure if that could be a factor in it pulling left seeing as its been pulling for 2 year but the caliper only been leaking a week. am getting tracking checked today and caliper repaired wednesdaybut have a feeling it'll still pull to the left after that work is done.fyi it had new discs n pads last year and top swivel bearing collapsed to so the full swivel was repaired including chrome ball
any ideas from you clever people would be welcomed

lol i know, just kept putting it off but know it needs doing for the new tires, so would your bet be the tracking?

Tracking, steering box, drag links, hub preload, binding caliper(s), tyre pressure, springs and dampers.

Could be any, jack her up, and spend an hour poking prodding and measuring, i had one that did that because a spring had sunk a bit.

Have an assistant wiggle the steering etc. spin the wheels by hand and see if one is more free that the other, the hubs have a preload on them, one is perhaps slack

Its all simple in there, just a matter of going through it logically

cheers

Pulling to side particularly under braking can be wheel bearings on their way out
For 2 years ? ? !

it's tracking if it was anything else it would have altered in two years, that's a lot of wear on a 2 ton motor, bushes bearings etc would have worn and changed the symptoms in that time.

not pulling to the left under braking and have checked all wheels for play and there is none, tracking is getting sorted saturday as they said its best to do tracking with the new wheels n tires fitted

I had a new front tyre put on my car and within a week it started to pull to one side.

Tracking was OK, so swapped over the tyres from left to right and the car started pulling the other way. Took the car and tyre back to shop for a look.

Turns out the new tyre was faulty.
