On the way ome after finishing early at work heard a srange noise (bit like a clunck).

30 seconds later as i pulled up at home there was smoke coming from under the bonnet. So i pop the bonnet and there is smoke coming froom the front left of the engine at the bottom under the alternator. It smelt like burning rubber, and ther as a slight mark on the belt.

Smoke stopped after 10 seconds or so and i had a look underneath, there was liquid dripping from the passenger side at the back of the undertray. Seems to be water as there is no stain left and it doesn't smell.

Had the engine running for a short time, runs smooth. No more leaking (so far) and no more smoke.

Going to pull the tray off tomorrow and have a better look ( to many beers )

Any ideas what it could be?

edit: Checked the aircon and it doesn't seem as cold as it was before

water dripping is undoubtedly condensate from air con. may be clutch siezed on aircon and caused belt to slip.

would deffo buy spare belt to keep in vehicle, then at least you have it if the old one does snap all of a sudden.

Just got the tray off to have a look. Nothing stands out. Besides the air con compressor being wet with a clear oil like fluid. The belt is cracked so have orderd a new one.

Whatever was leaking evaperated quickly so i presume this was from the air con

There is a mark on the main belt as if somthing has been rubbing (possible cause of smoke).
But can't see what it was rubbing on.

From what i can see the melted rubber/plastic came from the clutch area of the air con compressor.

Do i need i new compressor, i've had look and prices start from £350.00:eek:

Is there any way to repair it or do i need a new one, if so can i get a cheaper recon?
