The stubborn stud sheered off flush with the
manifold. Luckily I was working at the local
garage and had access to all the tolls need to
drill out the remains.

Amazing how different it is having air tools,
sharp drill bits and experienced mechanics on hand.

Decided to drill out and use a nut and bolt
instead of a new stud. Needed to grind the top of
the manifold flat to accept the nut - All took
about half an hour and the new down-pipe is a last
fitted along with copious amounts of copper slip.

Now need to sort out where the power steering pump
is leaking fluid from. I've had this 90 for about
six years now and there is ALWAYS something that
needs sorting!!!

Time for beer now....

Yes, you must allow time to service the gizzard with alcoholic lubrication
or the jobs will seem overwhelming. ;-)

The whole point of me getting my Land Rover
was to 'give me something else other than
work to focus on' At least that was the
original plan!

Working full time from home on large projects
does make you rather stir crazy sometimes.
However, I've now got the reverse problem in
that I keep wandering out and tinkering when
I really should be working!! And when I'm not
tinkering I'm thinking about it....Bit sad
really!

Living next door to a pub means that I spend
rather too much time lubricating my innards.
Lovely pint of Adnams they do...

Come to think of it what with the 90 and the
pub it's a wonder I get any work done really.

Classic symptoms of Landroveritis, the well-known
terminal (time) wasting disease.

Another symptom being the willingness to end up
spending £10 to save £1 - oh, and finding the
EP90 smells nice. And wanting to look round the
overalls department..... and chucking in
£60,000 a years jobs to do something "more
interesting" ;-)

Wireless network and cordless digital phone
does the job if you 'need' to pop out and
have a fettle. Been caught out a couple of
times but thats a risk you take with
combining home working and a Land Rover.

Anyway Lee you do seem to spend a lot of the
day reading and responding to AFL??

I did used to log all the costs associated
with running my 90. In the interests of
marital harmony I stopped adding it all up. I
just keep the paperwork in a box file and a
bit of a log of what I've done.

Over the last few years I've definitely spent
enough to buy a new or nearly new one. But
the whole point was for it to be a 'project'
which it certainly continues to be. I do
around 3K miles a year just pottering about
with the dogs and to and from the garage.

I'm about 30 seconds from the pub front door!
The pub is called the Garden House. Bit of
a drinkers pub so nothing too fancy but the
beer is kept well. The Adnams is slightly
chilled which is nice on a warm day.

Actual location is Banham in Norfolk so the
beer does not have to travel too far. Bit too
far for the dray horses though.

Not a great fan of Boddingtons but it is
better than lager!

In an attempt to get back on topic my hardtop
90 carried 12 drunks back from the Larling
Angel beer festival a couple of years ago.

Currently on leave studying for an exam on the 12th. Been doing about 10
hours a day (with breaks for brew and landroveritis threapy - purley a
cyberfix though :-( ) for the last week and a half... on holiday I was
doing 3 hours morning and night which was fun - not - but it did get me up
at 8 am while the rest of the family had a good kip.

I'm managing about an hour of "Section this subsection that" before my brain
become sufficiently puddled enough to warrant (damn can't get it out of my
head now!) a brew and some alternative therapy. As per R v Madasafish (Times
12th Sept 2006)

Box of matches ready for book burning ceremony on Afternoon of the 12th , I
can confidently burn them as they are already out of date once printed which
is even more frustrating but at least the cylabus is only on whats in the
books.

Thankfully I don't need to be able to spell for this one ;-)

When I go back to work I'll have been off for 4 weeks and a day... not that
I reminded my side kick much of that before putting my out of office on the
works email :)

Other advantage to my job is the shifts... get to tinker with my Percy in
the daylight when everyone else is at work... then go to work myself. ;-)

Have you thought about emigrating? NZ seem to be poaching people in
your line of work rather successfully.

I used to drink Adnams down Suffolk with my previous in- laws
now Vicky has promised me a brewery tour when we do visitin'
the folks down home in Michigan dodgy mercan beers
If you get the chance at a beer fest Thwaites is pure gold too few
pubs serve it round here be wary Pendle brews though- its far too
smooth to be legal and is liable to cause failures in the leg muscles
when attempting to stand. mmmmmm

Considered it but we've family members who will be reliant upon us in the
not too distant and also with two young nippers were also rather reliant on
others at times. The idea however is very tempting.

yeah... but they're not so keen on 40-y-os with no notbale qualifications.
The ability to wrangle land rovers is, while very useful, not the sort of
thing that impresses on paper, and these days it seems to be more about
what's on paper than what you know or can do...
