Power steering pump problem

I went on honeymoon with an MOT looming and let a friend change the power steering pump.

He fit a Britpart pump. Now when starting from cold there are a lot of bubbles in the reservoir. A lot of small bubbles and the pump seems to make a noise. No loss of fluid but noisy. Once warmed up (30 miles or so) it's quiet and no bubbles. I have bled it twice on two separate occasions according to Haynes since I got back with no effect. Both times the fluid was warm (engine running for 5 mins as per Haynes instructions).

  1. Is the pump just no good?
  2. Has he not attached the pump correctly?
  3. Has he missed something allowing air to get in but not fluid to get out?
  4. Has he failed to re-attach the pully wheel properly?
  5. Has he damaged the belt?
  6. Any other ideas?

Lots of questions I know but any advice on how best to investigate would be good as I'm out of time this week with work and need it running for work early next.

Is there any kinks in the suction pipe, especially near the pump itself?
How did you bleed it full lock then slacken the nipple?
Doenst need to be warm to do this.

No kinks.

  1. Steering straight, engine on.
  2. Bleed open until fluid came out.
  3. Turned to full lock on left then right, back to centre.
  4. Bleed open until fluid came out.
Thanks.
