Hi there,

I have just been driving the freelander, and was up against a kerb, and then reversed, and must have clicked the HDC button....then all sorts of stuff happened! The Traction Control light is now on all the time, the HDC and ! is constantly on, and there is no gear selector light. There is only proper drive in when 1 is selected, and reverse when R selected. In other gear selections (D, 2, 4) there is only very little forward momentum. When selecting R or 1 there is a big clunk from the rear axle area, but then it drives as stated.

Hopefully just an electrical issue, but any thoughts out there?!

Thanks,

Oscar

The HDC won't switch on or off at all, just nothing! Only an amber HDC! light and TC light on the dash.

Would a faulty switch cause the lack of gear changing and lack of light on the gear selector I wonder.

Think I'll phone LR tomorrow!

Thanks though.

Regardless of the HDC button, when selecting D it will drive and select gears as normal. HDC only works in 1st and reverse gears.

When you hit the kerb you may have upset a sensor.

Is there an error message on the display?

Lift the bonnet and look at the auto box from the front of the car. You should see 2 multi core cables coming from the auto box, out to meet the rest of the cars wiring. These cables both have 1.5inch diameter black barrel connectors. Have they become loose and partially disconnected? They twist to connect and you feel a click when they lock.

Putting it on LR's test book T4 computer thing will allow a fault code to be read from the cars computer. This system can also interrogate the auto box computer too.

Thanks, will try that.

There was originally a fault warning that flashed F then 1. It isn't doing it now, however. In fact there is nothing showing on the display at all in terms of gears.

Have also spoken to my old man, who's a LR dealer (unfortunately not local) and his mechanic reckons possibly a recall issue that these FL's had to do with the HDC switch.

Unfortunately it looks as if I'll have to take it for a diagnostic check at LR at the weekend - I poresume that's what you mean by the T4 computer thing?
