play in gearbox

hi,
i'm new to this, but i think i have a problem with my lt77 gearbox, when i was changing the handbrake shoes there was a lot of play in the box. is this normal or is it on its way out?

what do you mean by play?

You probaly know this already, but if you dont; youve got two boxes there. A gear box (lt77) and a transfer box bolted to the back of it. The hand brake assembily is bolted to the transfer box. If by play you mean you put it in gear and you can rotate it a fair bit befor it grabs, yea thats preaty standard on a landrover, its best ignored. If you mean the output shaft wobbles lots, then your transfer box needs new output bearings. This is also preaty standard on a landrover.

when i put in gear it does rotate a bit, the output shaft does'nt wobble. thanks pal just wanted to make sure this was normal.
