We all like pictures (at least I know I do :)), so I thought I would post a couple of my Ninety's dash as it has just had a few jobs done on it. Sorry the pics aren't bigger, I still haven't figured out how to do that.

I removed a large bunch of wiring from in the dash a couple of weeks ago that some home-electrician had put in when doing a half-assed stereo installation. I also removed the hopeless speakers from the back of the vehicle and the tweeters that were velcroed to the top of the dash, as well as the speaker wiring that was strung through the vehicle .

I took the Ninety to the autoelectrician today to get a tachometer installed and to properly tidy the remaining dash wiring, and to replace the instrument cowl/gauge surround which was badly cracked in several places (I got a new one sent from the UK along with stainless surround).

I am very pleased with the result, and my Ninety now has some of the tidiest dash wiring of any pre-2007 Defender I have seen :D
I also remembered a plastic cover (see picture below) that I found behind one of the seats when I bought the vehicle. I had wondered if it was a cover for the dash wiring, but it never seemed to fit. Now that all the wiring has been tidied, I can see that it will, so that should help improve things further.

Before you post any mocking comments, note: I am very pedantic, so things like untidy or uncovered wiring tend to annoy me ;)

I think you have done a great job and the rev counter looks like it should be there. Thanks for showing a picture of the wiring cover. Mine hasn't got one fitted and I wondered what they looked like!

Just looked at my parts list, I think it could also be the 'aux instrument cover' is it part number 'BTR9552' or '346786'?

Hi Kwakerman,

I did a quick search on the internet of those two part numbers and it looks like 346786 is the correct part no. - but I can't be totally sure as it looks like no one makes these covers anymore and there are very few pictures around.

I found this on the LR Series site:

346786 AUXILLIARY INSTRUMENT REAR COVER | Defender: Defender 1985>: Accessories | shop | www.lrseries.com

I had never seen one fitted before either - everyone seems to just have their dash wiring uncovered so I was pleased when I found out I had one - I think it looks very tidy, nice and minimalist. Luckily I didn't throw it out when I first got the vehicle - I think it might be irreplacable now!

I think that cover is for the wiring behind rear wiper switch / cigarette lighter in the third picture

Correct, I hadn't fitted it yet when I took the pictures as I wanted to show everyone what the cover looks like.
