Hi

I've been having nothing but trouble with my 96 4.0 since i got it, the battery will not stay charged, every day it was flat down to about 5.5 volts so i replaced the battery and this seemed to stop the battery drain for a few weeks now it drains down to 2 volts overnight every night. Im almost certain its the EAS causing it because when i left the car on the lowest setting the battery lasted 2 days. The car is never locked so would imagine it can't be RF receiver related. There is a ticking sound that comes from the compressor box every so often and when the engine is switched off.

Is it possible to disable the EAS by removing all the fuses and relays for one night just to see if thats the problem and would i need diagnostics to get it working again? This is a massive battery drain, a fully charged battery runs flat in less than 8 hours.

Any help is really appreciated.

Thanks

Just to add, the alternator is fine. It was the first thing i tested

Is it possible for the RF receiver to drain the battery even if the car is unlocked. I've never locked it because i don't want key code lock out?

Ticking sound is from the eas valve block during self levelling. You can put the eas into access mode on the dash switch, and leave it switched off. As for battery drain, first thing to check would be the alternator. If its not charging the battery then the P38's electrics (including eas) will only drain it further.

You can pull the relay under the passenger seat to freeze the EAS, however it's much more likely to be the RF receiver waking up the BECM causing the drain.
The clicking is self leveling and uses very little power.

Unless the timer relay is duff it should only wake up to self level every six hours. RF receiver is a big possible. But also suspect a leaky diode in the alternator. If you put a volt meter across the battery you should be able to watch it dropping if that is the cause.
