How easy to do as a home job? Do you need a press etc? Or, if i can get a
hub cheap enough can it help me at all?

Nige:

It's been my experience that the hubs are typically sealed units and there
is no need for a press. Typical shop tools can replace these units. A torque
wrench may be required when fitting hub nut.

There's no need to relace the whole hub anymore - the bearings are
available seperately. Some sort of press/vice is going to be needed.
