P38 rear airspring, bit of advise Please !

Hi guys, just fitted a new airspring to the rear nearside and cant get the bloody airpipe to seal, I dont think its going far enough in, is there a tool that will grip the pipe to push it furthur in that will go through the stupid small working space provided. Or it could be that I have missed something off the pipe that I should have fitted. The new airspring came with a plastic fitting in the air inlet, this I though was just to keep the muck out, but I aint thrown it, can anyone advise please as I cant let the jack down till the bellows fill cause I dont want to crease the new bag ... thanks and regards to all .. I had the same problem with mine. I ended up taking it out again and found there was no O rings behind the brass collet. It was a new Arnott G 2. If your happy the o rings are in place, check the end of the pipe for marks or scoring. Wouldn't hurt to trim the end a little, give it a smear of Vaseline And it should pop in without too much effort.

Even some spit on the end of the airline will help it go in, lol.

Hi mate, thanks for your reply, I never thought of an "O" ring, but makes sense. I did take out the collett but did not check for the ring, then put it back before fitting. I trimmed the pipe back behind the raised part of the pipe so that it is a clean cut and parallel, I aint yet tried to insert it with a lubricant, gonna try a bit of fairy or wd, but just wondered if there was some kind of tool that was thin and would grip the pipi, say 15 mm from the end to keep it straight and rigid to aid it going home through the collett and "O" ring, may try that tomorrow, the airspring was its only failure for mot and it runs out today, oh well so does the tax in 2 days lol ... thanks again ... There should be 2 o rings if you check. I used long nosed pliers.

I used surgical forceps to push the pipe in! If you cut too much off the pipe, the little raised collar will stop the pipe going in far enough to seal.

Do not use WD40 to lubricate the pipe, washing up liquid is fine, so is silicone grease or "O" ring lubricant.

Hi guys, goin out to have alook when I've finished mi cuppa, going armed, fairy liquid in one hand and a can of thinners in the other, I will be really p****d off if it needs to come off to check these "O" rings. Cause I will need to jack the axle down and take the bloody big wheel off, some dick has fitted locking nuts to them. Aint they a pain ? .... Joss.

Thinners? If thats paint thinners of any sort, do not use it on any plastic part!
