Quick question: Is it possible that the led can be flashing when you press the button but the fob is not transmitting?
P38 key fob led - light's on but nobody home?

anything is possible. but you should try resynching the frequency before tossing it out. put key in driver's door lock with door open. turn key to lock while pressing lock button on remote. turn key to unlock while pressing unlock button on remote. should do it.

Unless it's a post 2000 car when I think it should re-synch by putting it in the ignition?
Could be the RF receiver has gone tits up, try standing very close to the off side rear window and operating the FOB.
