Hi Can anyone tell me if they have suffered the same problem as me that normal driving temperature stays normal but when I tow my caravan its fine on the flat road but when I go uphill it creeps up to the red then settles again to normal. I have replaced the viscouse fan, themostat, water pump and flushed the rad any ideas.

Many Thanks
Alan

Hi Alan
I had a similar problem with my 4.6. When I hitched to my caravan (Bailey senator twin axle) the temp gauge went to 3/4. I thought it was due to being a hot day.

I had flushed the rad, changed the cap cleared the bleed pipe exit into the header tank etc etc beforehand as a precaution due to hearing the stories ref overheating.

When I left the temp went to normal, All round the M25 normal and then when I got to the Junction for A317 (hill) the temp went up and I put the heaters on to cool the engine.

When I got to warwickshire I called the RAC and he said all was normal:doh:

So, when I got home I got the digital temp sensor out and the middle of the rad was stone cold which meant restricted water flow and no heat in front of the bi metal strip , So I ended up changing the rad and all was fine!:D
