P38 EAS Problems

Hi there,

I have a P38 Range Rover 2.5TD on a R plate,

Ive been having problems with the EAS with it showing me warnings such as EAS FAULT and 35 MPH LIMIT and the ride selector on the middle console having all the lights on, known as the "Christmas Tree"?

I knew the bags were on their way out and the compressor was starting to give up on life.

The pump and bags have been replaced by a local garage. Now the car simply only displays the 35 MPH LIMIT fault and the EAS one has gone. However the car still does not pump its self up. The garage had to do it manually for me so it could be driven and it currently looks like a monster Range Rover.

Only one light on the "Christmas tree" has gone off and all other remain on and solid. The mechanic told me it may be due to a faulty lock on one of the doors?

Does anyone know what may be causing the problem?

im not 100percent sure on this but maybe you need to reset the eas to clear the fault now ya airbags have been replaced. {chap on here called gavbriggs knows a fair bit on this hopefully he be around later with answers. been helpfull to me}

Have your local garage unconnected the eas ECU (this is found under passenger seat) this would disable the display

Secondly how did the garage manually inflate your system? As certain ways can send voltages back into the eas ECU and damage it beond repair.

After you check the above get a cable and eas software and re set the eas by clearing the faults, I don't think many local mechanics will have cable and software to do this.

Have to agree, in fact I've just been out there this evening clearing codes on mine with my home made lead and Storey's software. For referance, mainly for people searching in the future as I doubt this is your problem, my issues were down to the main connector to the valve block being dodgy. Some of the pins were lower then the others and only making intermitant contact. Tugged on the pins to pull them level with the others, cleared the codes and hey presto it's working (for the moment!).

Good luck with yours! Reading and then clearing the codes will be a good start, you'll be able to see which come back.

Once an "EAS fault" is logged and shows up on the Dash, then it is a permanent fault until cleared with an external diagnostic tool.
The only exception to this; an "EAS Fault" that appears to self clear, are problems with an EAS Height Sensor. The only fault I have ever seen self clear, is a physically disconnected EAS Height Sensor. Check the Connectors at each of the height sensors for corrosion. Also check the EAS computer under the passenger seat. Otherwise once you see "EAS Fault" you are stuck in that mode until cleared with an external diagnostic tool.

Most EAS Faults are caused by air leaks. The EAS computer does not have any fault codes for air leaks. The EAS computer assumes that the system does not have any leaks. Fix the leaks and then see what type of fault codes you are getting and clear the faults.

If your EAS computer is in EAS Fault mode and the Garage manually pumped the vehicle up, then the EAS computer is most certainly unplugged. Otherwise if the EAS computer was plugged back in, the EAS would lower the vehicle down to the bump stops. Or they left the Valve block plug unplugged under the hood inside the valve block/pump box.

there a bloke in solihull i think... do a search on fleabay for eas pump, he sells new refurbished and recon exchange

It sounds like its gone to "Hard Fault" - it needs clearing

the garage fixed new bags and comp and couldnt reset it? sounds like half a job done

Once you have the 35mph message it is a hard fault and needs to be reset with RSW solutions software or EAS Kicker etc. it will not clear just because the bags have been changed.

If you are anywhere near Sheffield i would be happy to put your RR on my lappy top to try and sort it out.

im just off the M5 j2 (oldbury) i too would be happy to hook u up to my lappy
