p38 dse can anyone help ??

Hi my p38 dse whilst driving everything is ok then all of a sudden the engine revs up by about 1000 rpm on its own then dies back down then cuts out engine warning light comes on, engine wont restart leave it for a couple minutes starts again light goes out, engine runs fine till the next time, any ideas ?????

sound like a problem i had on a C180 i had (i know it was an awful buy!!) and it was the throttle body. dont know if there is something like that in the P38 Diesel but maybe an air flow sensor? im sure there will be someone much more qualified than me along soon to help.

plug it into diagnostic code reader,otherwise all guess work
