hi all i have a p38 diesel auto its recentley lost power it goes 65 mph flat out & takes some churning over to start most of the time but every now & then it start 1st flick of the key,its puffing bit of black smoke aswell when its flat out? any ideas  cheers

Could be a few things. Diagnostics would be a good idea. Without seeing it hard work to call. ECU temp sensor. Manifold pressure sensor. No four injector. (Check electrical connections). Check all are connected then starting with cheapest work up to the dearest. Hoping the cheapest which is making sure all connections/pipes are good, works. ECU temp sensor is first to look at. Plus air in system.(spilloff pipes) For starting problems. Then Absolute pressure sensor/No four injector, for running problems

Clogged air filter, collapsed turbo hoses, blocked intercooler; also check vacuum pipe between manifold and MAP sensor on fuel filter bracket as if this isn't working it limits fuel delivery.

yes theres definatley air in system, can see it in clear pipe from filter to pump, but cant get it to bleed up,it just dribbles out of injectors (very bubbly) if you crack them open pipes are not colapsing thanks for help

Ok take cover off top of engine three allen bolts and take a look at spill off pipes. Look for fuel down in injector resess. If there is any, replace spilloff pipes with 3mm bore silicone vacuum hose. Ebay a few quid and better than the rubber ones. If they are not leaking look at O'rings on filter were pipes go in and come out they have been know to let air in. Try that and get back.
