 Has any one tried or heard of a conversion to fit a 300tdi into a P38 petrol.I think it would also mean putting a set of coils under it as well. it seems a pointless exersise to me as converting to the P38 diesel engine would be an easier prospect. both engines have their good and bad points. any ideas.

yes i did it to my 4.6 hse a few years back !

i fitted a 300tdi and 5speed box, i had already converted it to coil springs after the air **** packed up and i priced up new parts :(

it went better than my mates 2.5dse chipped bmw heap, and mine ran on chip fat, his always packed up when putting the smallist amount in :)

mine you its only a easy conversion when you have a workshop with all the gear and the know how, but it was worth doing.

have you still got it? if not was it easy to sell on?
Was it a straight forward conversion or did you end up welding engine mounts to the chasis? Did you use the 300tdi gearbox or was it the P38 one? Mine is auto which i assume yours was when you started. It would not be feasable to graft a 300 tdi to a P38 auto box due to all the electronic stuff. or would it? Did you get error messages flashing up due to the engine not being in or did you do something with the ECU? There are loads of things to be answered on a project like this but the only way is to try it and see what happens and sort the problems out when they arise. I can get a 300tdi but not sure about the gear box the ideal thing would be a scrap disco and take the bits off as you need them. any more views or ideas.
