Hi there,

It's a 2000, the 'ol girl has hot start issues (which i'll be resolving this week) and the battery is tired, so it's getting one of those asap (will be posting on any suggestions for appropriate one, while cost is an issue, imo, buy cheap - buy twice!)

Having not driven any others DSE's I'm not sure whether it is low on power, but it's not exactly brisk and you have to floor it to really go anywhere (at which point she does her thing, for a car weighing 2+? tonnes and with small-ish diesel engine) the concern is it tops out at around 75/80 normally and then if on cruise control it'll get upto 90 and that's it - she'll overheat at 70 if held for any real length of time. (same when towing, overheats when under any sort of load (23' caravan))

I'll start a new post as I think it'll be easier/get more views than this one.

thank's to all for your help so far - will put a new post up.

cheers,
jt

Not sure about top speed, but my DHSE will cruise at 85 to 90mph (140Kph) all day no problem and still has power in hand. Temp stays at 12 oclock, the only time the temp rises is with 1.5 tonnes of caravan on a hot day climbing a hill when it goes up to 1 oclock.
I have a PSI Power box fitted, performance is much better than the Pajero I had before.
Your hot start could just be due to low cranking speed from a poor battery, before you start modifying:D

Thanks chaps, I never did get around to putting a new post on! Been consumed by other tasks such as getting a new IT contract and getting my head around diagnostics on the vag group along with other such things. Anyway!

Yes, a new battery was put on this morning and silly things like the EAS 'seemed' to rise quicker, the central locking opened faster and didn't drone, I also raised the drivers seat and pushed all plugs home and the SRS light has gone off the dashboard which makes me feel a little more confident about progressing with troubleshooting.

90mph in this dse "you're 'avin a larrfff"! I'll take it for a spin tomorrow and see how we get on with new battery installed ala hot start etc - the kit has been ordered anyway so either way that will get sorted out.

The idea being that my folks can do their caravan thing and tow away without issue.

The lack of power makes me think head /head gasket ;( but i'll check the rad' and baffles/squeeze the pipes tomorrow to see how we're getting on.

It's loosing a bit of coolant too ...

right, will put a new post up now as we're waaaaaay off this topic of diy obd stuff ;)

Whoa there, plenty to look at before that!

Have you checked the vacuum tube from the manifold to the MAP sensor (on the fuel filter) is attached/not split/not blocked? If that isn't working correctly the ECU limits fuel delivery which means no top end power which hurts towing.
