Hi Gents , had a small (hopefully) problem with my p38 2.5 BMW diesel the other day - has been running fine then all of a sudden whilst sitting at a set of traffic lights waiting for green light the car temp gauge shot up to high when lights changed there was no power when I pressed the accelerator peddle so let her coast to side of road the engine was still ticking over just nothing from the peddle and then in a matter of about ten seconds the accelerator started working again and the temp gauge returned to the centre of temp gauge (normal operating) since then I have been watching temp gauge and its now rising a lot quicker than normal especially if I'm not moving? but if I accelerate hard she's fine and needle stays at normal- have looked under bonnet and viscose fan is turning quite fast -have checked expansion fluid and that seems ok as well? anyone got any ideas? please be gentle as although I've had two p38s prior to this one I have gleamed a bit of knowledge:confused: but I fix pc's:monitor_punch: for a living!! cheers in advance george

Had'nt even thought about that believe it or not,i start to panic when things go wrong and start looking for bigger probs, but thanks for that will check the thermostat top and bottom hoses, cheers george

I've had same problem..bought new rad has mine split...got new water pump and thermostat..overheats badly still and can't find the problem ...Was thinking I've got dodgy thermostat as it's britpart and I been reading there poo....

hi thanks for the reply , I got in touch with my range rover guy by phone and he said that they are very prone to the water pump missing now and again, I asked him if it could be a dodgy thermostat and he said when they change the water pump they always fit new thermo at same time, so mine booked in for it , will let you know if it cures it, george
