Hi Guys,

Just awaiting to pick up my newest toy 2002 P38 Vogue SE.

A few questions pls.

1 - Can i update the Sat-Nav to have postcode look-up ? If so how and where do i purchase the update ?

2 - Is it possible to change the default headunit to another to accept another alpine changer that allows MP3 or IPOD connection whilst still keeping the Harmon Karmon system in place. I dont want to loose or change the system if i can help it, I know from experience how great the standard system sounds.

Hope you can help and advise.

The best way to integrate an I-pod/mp3 into the HK head unit is an FM modulator. Easy enough to fit and some of the better ones even transmit the track info as an RDS signal.
Its tricky to get signals to the HK amp from a replacement head unit, I think some of the guys have managed it but its not simple.

As for upgrading James, I'm not sure I'd bother, halfords have a half price sale on Tom Toms and Garmins. Way easier to use, integrated bluetooth handsfree, better mapping etc

I've got a TomTom, but was just hoping to be able to get postcode lookup etc working on the built in system.

I've heard some owners mention it.

Can't wait to get back into a P38, biggest mistake i've ever made was getting rid of my first one !

Don't get me wrong, i love the freelander ( i know, this is my 3rd), a great fun car.. But no where near as practical or comfortable on a long run when compared to the P38.

Anyone interested in a 05 plate TD4 SE hardback with 27k from new.. only £9,750..

Can anyone recommend a got FM thingy for the Ipod ?

I've fitted a Maplins FM modulator to my last 2 Rangie HK units and find it very effective, far superior to any of the FM transmitters. But if I had a few more quid I'd definitely go for the more advanced ones that send the RDS data. Check it out at your local stereo shop. Don't get one thats not hard wired to the aerial.

Hi Mark, this may not help but i picked up the cd (2007/8) on ebay few months ago .It is only a copy and cost £12 &pp but it will take the first 5 digitts of the post code ..as i say this may or may not be of help, they are still on ebay from about £10 now..

Mark,

The hard wiring is easy, its just plug one of the car aerials into the modulator and then plug the modulator into the head unit aerial socket. You need a switched power source which you splice off the radio and then you just need to locate the switch.
The advatage of the hard wired one is two-fold, better reception for your mp3 and more importantly is that it switches out the car aerial so you have no interference on your chosen frequency. The ordinary FM transmitters are painful in a car as you travel around.
Don't know much about the denison one you mention but if you go into a car audio specialist they should have a few ones ranging from the simple switchable one I have upto the RDS ones I mentioned earlier.

One thats a cd NOT dvd...and must be 2007 or 2008 .they are copies on ebay but they work fine for £10-£15 plus pp.also make sure that they are for upto 2002 range rovers only(but i think after then was dvd)..

Hi,no when you start sat nav when it takes you to town entry ,start putting in post code.Has i said on last post it will take the first 5 letters only...to have full post code use you need the dvd in the range rover 3.
