Overheating 200tDi - help!

Im in Central Morocco with my 110 and on the run down she has been running very hot (and yes I know its hot in Morocco!!!). I can get round this by sitting at 55 or so but even so the temp gauge (both oil and water) is into the red within an hour of starting. She doesnt actually
-overheat- (famous last words......) but its uncomfortable and as we are contemplating heading into the desert I wonder if I have a developing issue.
May or may not be related - the orange warning light to the left of the fog light lamp and below the diff lock lamp (looks like this l\l ) glows very faintly when electrics like main beam are in use
engine heretofore reliable intercooled 200tdi fitted by Matt Savage - Matt are you on here? Its Sam!

Sounds as though your radiator is shot, the cores do eventually deteriorate / clog, first step is to remove the rad, ensure the fins are clear on the rear even if it looks perfect from the front and then reverse flush with a hose to see how much crud comes out and try again,

You could try one of the water 'wetters' that lower surface tension and enable better cooling, supposed to allow running up to 10 degrees cooler, did the trick on my old TD

Finally if planning a hot trip why not fit a TD full width rad, thats what I've done on my 90 and it runs far cooler and happier all the time, ive relocated the intercooler behind the rad for now but will eventually have a full width in front of the rad, the TD rad is full width and includes an oil cooler as per the TDI

Cheers Steve. I did discover a lump of glop on the rad this morning that wont have been helping but Ive had a fiddle and will try a long run on tarmac tomorrow and see if Ive fixed it.
Typing this on an Arabic keyboard which is a real b+gger!
