I know that all you ruffy-tuffy LR people are not without hearts. I saw
loads of dogs attached to LR people at Malvern. Hell, I think dog ownership
must be a qualification for Landy ownership. I just had this brought to my
attention. Live cats & dogs are being used as sharkbait. I'll spare you any
more gory details - I can't bear to look.

Please sign the online RSPCA petition.

http://www.rspca.org.uk/servlet/Satellite?pagename=RSPCA/RSPCARedirect&pg=sharkbait

Signatures do not have to be UK based. The link is incredibly slow at the
moment - I hope it's because so
many people are trying to sign - but please be patient.

I was trying to read your post over the top of one of my cats (17 years old)
that was attacking the curser!! Perhaps he had read it too.
Petition signed and your post forwarded to all my pet owning friends.

I sometimes despair of humanity.

Then again, I wonder how many of the signatories had chicken for
lunch...

's one thing killing chickens to eat 'em, another thing using live animals
as sharkbait, mind. I've no problem with the former - the latter seems
unnecessarily cruel.

I did. I've no real problem killing something 'with a face' in order
to eat it. I've killed lots of things in my life to eat them. Haven't
go a problem with it at all. Now, I DO have a problem with senseless
killing for 'sport' (and the conditions that 'farmed' animals are
often kept in, but that's the price we pay for our food). Nobody I
know has ever eaten a fox and I'd hope I don't know anybody who would
think that the torture of one animal, cat, dog or otherwise, in order
for some ****ing arseholes to go catch a Shark is in any way at all
acceptable, either (Especially when there are soo many chavs who would
far better suit the purpose).

the point is, the dogs have a life, then they die an unpleasant death.

most chickens (and lots of other animals) are born to suffer, never
have 'life' and then die an unpleasant death.

neither is necessary. neither is justifiable. that was my point.

I eat lots of meat, but I'm fussier than most about how it lives and
how it dies.

Agree entirely.

We probably differ on that, but it's all about defining 'senseless'.

Because we're too fecking lazy to go kill it ourselves.

You, and I (well, Charlotte) may very well go for the more expensive
'killed with kindness' meats, the meat which we'd like to think is
reared with nice open, green fields, romps around with its mates, and
dies with no suffering. This, as we should all recognise, is not
really the case at all. "Organic" is a pretty thin con these days
once the supermarkets got in on the act, "Ethical" meat equally as
bogus IMO. If I go get some lamb from a friend, I may know that it's
had a good life before getting lead poisoning from his 12 bore or
whatever, but he only has 40 or so a year to kill.

And I'm too fecking lazy to go source other 'killing it nicely'
places, as I guess, are most of us.

I'm no animal lover in any degree, but that is truly ****ing disgusting
behaviour from the ultimate predator (I don't mean the shark, as they
aren't)

How ANYONE can do that to a live animal is beyond me.

Mind you, a maggot is a living creature killed for
sport................................

Not that I support or reject fishing.

There's ever such a slight difference between humane slaughter in a
controlled manner and sticking a hook through a dogs nose and dangling
it in the sea - if you can't see that, God help you.

WTF are you on about? He's making a very fair point - animal cruelty
is all around us, and in far greater numbers than dogs being fed to
sharks.

The treatment of those dogs is horrendous. Then again, they have seen
sunlight before meeting a grim death. Hundreds of thousands of
chickens die every day without ever having got off their knees, let
alone set foot outside. The only reason for this is that hundreds of
thousands of people want cheap meat.

Do you know anything at all about the food you eat?

I think I may have took it the wrong way, I have indeed worked at a
slaughter house. I'll get my coat. 80 hour weeks for you, my apologies, but
it still doesn't seem that clear!

I'll take a thousand lines - 'I will shut the **** up & apologise'

It's also apparently a hoax, while there has been the occasional
example of someone dragging an animal behind a boat as bait (and I
don't just mean live fish, which is routine even by anglers in this
country), the "remote islanders petition RSPCA tradition etc etc"
thing is an urban legend that's been around for some time. The
pictures on the site linked to in this group didn't appear to be real
to me, so I poked around a bit. I'd suggest that others do the same.

For something far more horrific, have a look for the video of a racoon
being skinned alive in China, that's no hoax, the image of a live
racoon with no skin, struggling to climb off a pile of other similarly
treated animals, with scared eyes blinking out of a skinless face is
something that made even me feel rather ill. It's like something out
of a horror movie, but real.

Ugh, one the worst ever, man (if we can be called that sometimes) is truly
horrific at times. that poor ****er still has eyelashes with no ****ing

Nasty, very nasty.
