Hi All,

Is my fuel pump duff??? Symptoms : (td4 Auto Trans)

Pumps run forever with the ignition on, and the engine not running.

It struggles up hills.

Gear change is rough.

One day, it wouldn;t rev about 2500rpm while driving, although its never done it again since.

It kicks down a gear if i try to accelerate at 60mph, like theres now enough power.

And the new one, while parked up with the engine running, I revved the engine, and noticed that it "misfires" above 2500 rpm.

Both of the pumps were changed by the "stealers" (Sturges Landrover, Leicester) on 03/10/2007 and i have done about 20k miles since then. If I have a duff pump i'm going to argue that the one the "stealers" fitted was not fit for purpose, as in my opinion, a fuel pump should last the lifetime of the car, not just 2 years!!!!

if it should last the lifetime of the car then why did you get it changed the first time? stealers know all the get out clauses m8. just go to an indie this time or have a go yourself:D

I would have thought that a reasonable expected lifetime for a car would be 100,000 miles these days.

As mine as has just passed a 177,000 miles and is 8 years old, having fuels pumps fail the first time was not such a big issue as i could justify it as reasonable wear an tear. The first one lasted 150k......

For the part to be replaced with a piece of crap thats only last 20k or 2 years is not only an insult to me, but is an insult to Landrover. Especially considering that the work carried cos me around £800 pounds. I expect the LANDROVER dealer to treat my car with the respect that i would have treated it with, and to treat me with respect as a Landrover customer.

If i'd had have gone to the scrapper and fixed it my self with a second hand pump in unknown condition, than yeah 20k would have been a fair distance to have gone before replacing it again, however i didnt. I spend my money on what i thought were the best parts and the best service that i could get. Obviously they saw me coming.

I'm happy Landrover owner, on the whole, and even though my Landrover is "tempermental", I still wouldn;t change it. It gives it personality, unlike the Volvos and Fords of the world that never break! :)

A new pump (not genuine LR) is £85 with Island 4x4. £125 mosyt other places - genuine part is £170+vat from LR. Takes approx 1/2 to change and will probably solve the prob. Trouble is ****e diesel, not running Diesel redex, corroded tanks and other things could be all adding to the problem.

I recently changed mine and emptied the diesel crud sumps when l got the same symptoms as you. LR will agrue that you put crap diesel in the car since the change over.

I'd also change the diesel filter while your at it (easily dont at the same time as the pump as they sit together)

You'll get no where arguing with LR.

Tom

Are you sure it is a fuel pump fault and not the wiring to the fuel pressure sensor?
