this is 200Tdi related, first off i've done quite a bit of hunting on the web and an awful lot on the 200tdi section here and from what i've read your knowledge seems to stand out (no not kissing your butt :p )

my problem is a little strange as my engine has developed a rattle but it doesn't happen until i'm running at motorway speeds (200tdi in a 109 with 3.54 diffs, 300tdi turbo and td5 intercooler) this puts my speed at approximately 55-60mph before it's noticeable (obviously there in all gears at those revs but more noticeable in top as i sit at those revs longer without a gear change), the noise gets louder as i power it on, drop back to 50ish and it goes away

i initially checked and reset my valve gaps but all that did was clear the slightly excessive valve rattle

there's only two things i can think of that might be causing this noise (i've primarily worked on/broke petrol engines), 1. i've a little end gone and 2. i've a big end on the way out/gone

i've not broke/worn out a diesel before so i'm not sure if i'm daignosing these sounds correctly

the engine was sold to me as having covered 165k miles and had a new timing belt kit on it (i checked and it was new), this engine pulls well in my opinion but the rattle needs sorting as i'm certain something is going to let go eventually

i've checked the oil pressure once hot and it sits at 22psi idling and rises to just over 50psi when revved (checked with a Sykes Pickavant workshop kit)

any suggestions would be appreciated as to what i should probably be looking for

Cheers
Pete

p.s.
this engine is coming out anyway but i'm still looking for clues
