I have a 1990 3.9 classic , I want to change the autobox oil and filter. I have bought the kit and some dextron two oil from comma (which I hope is good enough).

I have looked in the haynes manual for the ammount to put in but it only gives the ammount for the older 3 speed auto and I think mine is a 4 speed (1990 model). I know it has dipstick but you cant check it with the engine off, and running it with the oil too low or high can damage it.

So how much do I put in?

Also any tips for the job? Do I need to remove a chassis member?

Thanks Guys!

make a note of how much u drain out.. mark the bowl/bucket in litres, dunno if urs is same as my disco but i reckon so mine had 4 litres, the sump comes straight off p38's but i think classic u gotta remove the cross member.... sum1 ull be along soon and correct me if im wrong

ZF capacity is 16pts/9.1 litres & yes the chassis has to be spread in order to remove the crossmember, if you are replacing the filter, which is normally a workshop job.
