Can Anyone Help I On My 1992 3.9 Range Rover When You Start It Up From Cold The Oil Light Takes Ages Too Go Out When Its Warm Its Fine I Have Just Done A Oil And Filter Change And Also Fitted A New Pressure Switch But Its Still The Same I Have Got A Set If Gears And A New Cover That I Was Going To Have Fitted When I Take The Car In To Have The Velet Gasket Done At The Same Time I Was Going To Have New Tappets Pushrods And Complete Rocker Shafts Replaced As It Some Time Has A Noisey Tappet When Cold Aswell

how many miles has it done?

You'll need to get the oil pressure checked, early rover V8's had crap oil pressure at the best of times. Tappet noise will be because of low or no oil pressure.

Don't bother putting just tappets in it as I pretty much guarantee the cam will be well worn too (at the back usually)

Low oil pressure on a rover V8 is usually caused by worn bearings and oil pump gears & cover so if you're willing to go to the expense of new tappets, push rods and rocker shafts etc then I'd remove and rebuild the engine properly.

Don't bother with second hand engines off ebay etc as they'll be in the same state. When I buy second hand V8's, i ALWAYS rebuild them.
