I decided to exchange the crude oil in the engine for new refined oil and put on a new filter before I return 1995 RR Classic back to my neighbor. The shop manual and owners manual agree that between the sump and the filter the oil capacity is 6 quarts. I put 5.6 quarts in the sump and 0.4 in the filter. Sitting on flat concrete the dip stick shows one quart low. I let it set overnight and pulled the stick again with the same result. Because this vehicle has always been serviced by a dealer I am a little suspicious that it went out the door with a dip stick from a different vehicle.

The dip stick measures 21.75 inches from tip to hilt and 27.5 inches overall. I do not find any specification in either manual for the length of the dip stick. Would one of you kind souls, with a 4.2 V8, compare these measurements with your (vehicle's) dip stick?

If the vehicle has run fine since 1995 being topped out on that dipstick it has a fair chance of being the correct one. Just top up until oil is up to full level. In the hand book does it say imperial quarts or US quarts. 6 US quarts is a lot less that 6 imperial quarts.
