Oil at Vacuum Pump. Indication of what?

Greetings,
A little help required.

I'm aware of the 300tdi vacuum pump face modification to remove rivets and replace with screws. However my question is this: Does an oil leak at the pump indicate failure of any kind?
 
nah, just your rivets have streatched.whip it off, new gasket, stick some bolts and nylock nuts and whip it back on.
