Hey Up,
Been trying to sort a problem out on my mates 54 plate 60k Miles TD5 Defender. When you set off it is making a rubbing sort of noise as though something is catching, its not a metallic noise like a bearing but more like a rubber on metal type of noise, it seems to do it most when you change into second gear doing about 15 to 20 mph ish. The intermittent noise speeds up with road speed and whilst it is making the noise if you dip the clutch it stops. When it is making the noise it puts the traction control light on and snatches the land rover to the left as thought the brake is pulling like the series ones do. I hung my head out of the window whilst my mate was driving and it definately sounds like the nearside front wheel. It doesn't do it all the time, sometimes you can't get it to make the noise, but it does do it more often than not.

When we got back I jacked it up and whipped the wheel off, there is nothing obvious wrong with it, the tyres are all the same sizes, presures are ok, the wheel bearing is fine and nothing seems to be catching or rubbing anywhere, the wheel spins freely with no rubbing or binding. The brake disks look fine and are not warped, the pads are getting ready for changing but nothing excessive or dangerous....

At a bit of a loss as to what it could be, can anyone shed any light on it or has anyone had this problem on theirs....? Thanks in advance Neil.
