My Defender has developed a low frequency vibration that occurs mainly between 45 and 50mph when applying power...it disappears on the over-run. It's like a pressure wave, quite unsettling. Last time I had that kind of vibration was on a Triumph Herald and it was the prop shaft.
It's there at lower speeds too but not as much. I had a look underneath and there is a bit of lateral play (that you can feel) in the bearing at the rear of the front prop shaft. (where it goes into the gearbox) It's definately not the universal joint or sliding joint. Could this be a fault or is it normal? The Defender is an '06 90 and has done 14,000 miles.
Is there anything else that could be causing it?
