North Wales RR fan

Hi all,
Thanks for joining me as a member.
I live in North Wales and I have owned 3 Discoveries (petrol and diesel engines) and 2 Range Rovers (P38s 4.0 petrol/lpg) over about 40 years, and am a big fan, but now find myself driving a Gran Vitara. The Suzuki is good off road and economical (if you like driving a tin can), but I want to get back to a Range Rover again. I use the 4x4 to go off road regularly, not for sport but as a workhorse, often carrying equipment supplies up to half a ton.
I like the P38 which is a good solid, well equipped car, but as I look around I find I am tempted by younger, flashy models, which I know nothing about. Finance is very limited. Should I look for a P38 again and cherish it forever, or a younger, lower mileage and possibly more fuel economical model? I would appreciate comments on members' experiences. Many thanks,

go for a p38 the parts are a lot cheaper than an l322 and the car is less electronically based and rust less

P38 would be my choice if making it again. The later models are a bit more sophisticated, but that comes at a price measured in frustration and heartache as the sophisticated bits fail and are harder to get and harder to fix.
For and economic workhorse probably a Diesel or an LPG equipped petrol model of the P38.

Welcome Ken. Your question would get a lot more answers over in the Range Rover section My own tuppence worth is : P38 easier and cheaper to maintain. Getting more and more expensive to buy a half decent one. L322 more complicated and more expensive to maintain. Getting ridiculously cheap to buy, but the less you pay to buy one the more you will pay in the immediate future for issues. An L322 without issues , is like a unicorn, but if you find one it will not be a bargain, and it will still cost more than a P38 to maintain.

I too am P38 biased, although I still think it would best suit you. L322 can be had cheapish these days but their problems are not. You need deep pockets and computer knowledge to maintain them.
P38A is easy enough if you are familiar with them, more suited workhorse, still get them cheap and the guys/gals here know where to get all the parts for reasonable prices. Diesels have less issues than the V8s and only need one fuel tank

Disco would be nice but D1 or D2 are old enough to need welding etc and a D3 is an L320 (Goldrover I remembered!!) in disguise
