Hi all
I have adjusted all my tappets and one rocker was really lose I run out of adjustment when it's tight I've got the push rod out and it doesn't look worn would it be the cup on the rocker adjuster? If so can it be replaced PLEASE HELP:(

I dont know your motor, but if one was "really loose" are you sure that the valve stem cap is still good?

One of mine was making a racket - from the side, it looked like the cap was still in place, but the section actually underneath the rocker arm was worn riht through, so it was only a ring around the outside that i was seeing!

Hi Julian
valve stem cap doesn't look worn. It seems like the cap on the threaded adjustment on the rocker arm is worn can't see very well at the moment as it got dark whilst I was doing it. The photo is of the top of my push rod
Cheers
Rory

I can't see the brass end well enough. I can see that there's a recessed cup in there. That explains why it's been running ruff and fluffy for the last year or so

Set the engine in a position where the offending pushrod is at full valve open position at this point one other will also be in the same position note which one , then remove the rocker arm assembly .Compare the height of the faulty rod with the other one this should tell you if cam follower brass part is faulty provided both pushrods are same length..
Whilst rocker assembly removed examine the faces of the rockers for wear at the point they sit on the valve caps.

Exellent I've compared the pushrod length to the other one and they are the same no worn at all. When the rods in place it looks lower than all the others I'm hoping the head doesn't have to come off

With rockers removed you can also put a straight edge across top of valve stems to make sure valves are similiar , might not be exact as some will have been ground down a little more than others.

Have just done this there all nice and flat across all valve cups. It's looking like the heads got to come off a simple tappet adjustment turned into a major job not good

Turns out it's one or two worn rocker arms where can I purchase these?
I fixed it then a day later starter motor went but is all sorted now thanks to oliver at inside out 4x4

Rocker arms are about £35 each i think...

You can get whole (2nd hand) rocker assemblies from ebay for about a tenner.

Morning Julian
I didn't know that I only know bits and bobs enough to get by working on motors.
Think I may buy a complete one then I can't go wrong. The two that aren't great are the 2 nearest the bulkhead

Ive just realised you are talking about a different engine to that which i thought.... this may alter the availibility of parts (used) and also, i guess, the rockers may all be the same, but i suspect not - just get a parts manual for the engine (will be online somwhere) and see if theyre all the same part number or not.

...then you can google the part number, and it will give you the new cost - may be better than i suggested.

I think it's a 12j engine being an ex mod Recon in 2010 when my neighbour purchased it direct from mod. But that's only a guess I'm new to the landy world
