morning

i have a 1995 rangy that will not start with out easy start
its a 2.5 diesel and it has no supply to the tank pump

if i use a little easy start the engine will fire and the tank pump then has a
supply and keeps on running.

so does anyone know whats wrong, or what supplies the feed to the pump,
or has a wiring diagram available

cheers in advance

The pump on your model only runs when the glow plug light is on or the engine is running. the engine will normally start even without the in tank pump working if the tank is more than a quarter full,
I would look at the leak off pipes, fuel filter and glowplugs.

Download Rave for wiring . Are you sure that you don't have power to the pump? You can access the wires under the wheel arch cover O/S/R. If you have power there then it looks like the pump has failed. Problem starting if the pump has failed usually happens when the tank is less than a quarter full. Drop the tank to change the pump, you can check the brake pipe that runs behind it at the same time. DONT keep using Easy Start !!:D

He does have power to the pump judging by his post, he just doesn't understand when the power is supposed to be applied. He's barking up the wrong tree with the pump.

it might be to do with the glow plugs then as i have a fault code for glow control.
if i probe the pump wire i have no battery voltage when i turn the ignition on or whilst cranking, but if i get her to start with a little sniff of easy start then there is a supply to the pump.

also the fuel pump relay has no switching signal and if i supply a feed the pump runs but the car still does not start.

so glow control needs checking

That sounds correct, it only runs if the glowplug light is on or the engine is running. If you have a glow control fault, likely the pump will not run. Check the glowplug relay & fuse.

Never ignore the obvious, if you have a glow control fault, that is the obvious place to start.:)

Pump relay is pulled by a splice from number six glow plug power supply when glow lamps are lit. Black/Brown wire. :)

turned out to be the relay in the ecu box as someone had wired in a aftermarket relay and it had burned out.

thanks to all who offered help and advice, you are all stars
