Just had a mobile aircon chap out who has pressure tested, vacumed and then filled my air con system and its that cold it made my sweaty head hurt while I was sat on the drive enjoying it. Spoke to him about those air con top up cans from Halfords and he said its a complete waste of time. The reason being if the gas is low or non existant there is somthing there in its place such as air and moisture. Air con oil and moisture turn acidic and eats all the aluminium bits in the system which is just about all of it. He also talked me through the process and once the system is in a state of vacume they open the Refrigarant tap and it sucks it into a completly empty system. Aparantly the cans just compress the air and moisture thats already in there a bit and dull the effects of the air con. He also mentioned that Pikies are filling peoples systems up with butane and propain which works realy well until you get a leak and pop! £50 well worth not melting in a jet black disco!!! or exploding with camping gas:)

Yep when you loose gas you also lose oil and just topping up with gas leads to it blowing up. On the reefers at work you also had to make sure you put the gas in at the right time, on the correct cycle, although we cut corners at tiimes and sent it in in liquid form for speed.
