I have owned Land Rovers since I was 17 and over the years have collected too many projects. Now it is time to have a clear out and I am looking for advice on the best way to package it up. The final nail in the coffin was getting a Disco 3 and having to admit that I would never choose to go back to a 110. This is what I have

Disco 2 with later engine - MOT fail inner wing rust, but engine great
Disco 1 300tdi - MOT fail, engine smokes - injector problem, gearbox good, rest scrap
Disco 1 300tdi chassis - engine and box good, chassis OK
Defender 110 1983 project, completely dismantled, Galv chassis and bulkhead, new rear tub, two sets of doors, one later pushbutton type, resprayed, mechanical winch, rangerover VM engine, LT88 and lots of other bits
Defender 110 1986, 300tdi retrofit, failed MOT with lots of welding needed, relatively easy fix for when I have 5 mins.

The Discovery chassis is on ebay at the moment starting at £500, but minimal interest. Too optimistic? Stupid to sell it first?

So how do I advertise that? The engines from any of the discoveries would be a good fit for the 110 project.

Thanks in advance

David

I am afraid that the email lists that I frequented when properly enthusiastic have gone, so I am looking for the up to date options. Anyway, not looking to sell directly, looking for advice on how to package it up. I guess selling will be ebay/facebook/gumtree etc. The sort of questions I am looking for answer: is anyone still installing 300tdi into 110? Td5? or is it all old hat now.

The current engine mounts suit the 2.5VM diesel, and possibly other engines of that vintage, possibly up to 200tdi, but I am really not sure about that. (Experts, help?) I can weld on mounts for 300tdi or TD5 if that is important. It is really difficult to get pictures at the moment as it is under 20 years of stuff, but basically completely knocked down. Chassis and bulkhead are galvanized and painted. All large parts present and many duplicated such as original and new rear tub, but details such as seat belts and loom are questionable at best. I don't have a price in mind and was really on this forum for advice on how to package all the bits I have for sale and how much to ask for it.

All the best

I prefer to do all my own fabrication thanks though, original chassis galvanised or new
was the mounts welded on before of after it was galv'd , under 20 years of stuff so it needs
massive amount of parts replaced.
Pull it all out & take loads of pictures then put them on here.

It is the original chassis galvanized. I think a "massive amount" of parts is an exaggeration. I would change all brake parts, but that is about it for the drive train. I wouldn't personally use the current engine, gearbox or transferbox.

I'm still trying to work out the best order to do things. Digging it out will create a lot of stuff that has to go somewhere. Starting by shipping off the more portable vehicles and parts may make more sense. There seems little interest in me packaging things up, which I guess makes sense as you can only get one car sized thing on a car trailer.

I guarantee it will need a lot more parts than you think, ive built a few from parts no point sticking
old bits that's been lying for years your only going to replace them soon after you start driving it.
I dont see the point of doing a half ar$e build, do it once & do it properly.
What about the suspension, steering, lights, hoses, door seals, wheel bearings, props
nuts, bolts, washers, screws, clips ect ect plus it needs a drive train & axles pulled apart
new brearing's swivel kits bla bla & then all the body work & painted.

This my friend turns into a massive amount of parts.
If you get pics think of a price let me know im looking for another build project.

It is up to you if it is a reassemble as is or refurb, but you have to expect a refurb to cost more and the finished product to be worth more than a non-refurb example.

Cost isnt an issue when it comes to doing a project, reasonable refurbs don't cut it. :D

Well, it would make a good base for a concourse classic if that is your thing. Lots of features only found on the very early 110s still present and the engine is at least period if not one ever fitted by LR to the 110. It has been laid up for a long time.

All the best
