Hi, I am a newbie, to both Landyzone and Land Rovers. I have a 1997 Disco, 300 Tdi and I have some strange things going on with my alternator and hope someone might be able to help?
A little while ago my my rev counter started playing up and then shortly afterwards stopped altogether; my battery started draining too so I suspected the alternator was packing up. Voltage across the battery whilst the engine was running was reading 12.4v so assumed the alternator was definitely at fault. Fitted a new alternator and did not get the miraculous solution I was hoping for, the new alternator only seemed to jump into action if I revved the engine to over 2000rpm after startup, but once working it would remain on the go until the end of my journey. I could probably live with this but it has only lasted 10 days and has stopped working today too.
I have also cleaned all the large earths within the engine compartment and all the alterntor connections but to no avail.
Has anyone got any ideas?
