Ive nearly concluded my install of a pioneer AVIC F960DAB head unit , a pioneer 1200W 4 channel amp and 4 off 3 way crossovers
The rear part of the car was not difficult. Took out the lear amp and the tv and radio tuner
The cages that hold these in were cut and made into holders for the amp and crossovers
The power and earth was taken off the amp loom for the new amp A power iso loom was taken from the front to the back with 6 phono leads All 5m long and only just long enough. The speaker leads were taken off the amp loom and screwed to the crossovers.
The front install was tight . The pioneer unit is full size double din so a plastic cover over the vents had to be cut so it would fit. I made my own bezel out of 18mm ply and covered in black leather from a 50p jacket from a car boot Those plastic expensive units you get are rubbish . The phono leads i used were chunky as i didnt want any interference from front to back. This was a little challenging as they had to go up the A pillar and BEHIND the air bag curtain.
A Dab aerial was put on the windscreen. I wanted it in the rear quarter but the 2 i ordered stated 5m leads but both were 3m only, so not wanting to wait a few more days and the car looking like a breaker on the front drive i just fitted it on the left upper windscreen.
Was it worth it. YES. The DAB radio is just fab. The sat nav is so up to date and detailed. The sound from the stock speakers is amazing. My teenage sons thinks its the best sound theyve ever heard. The clarity and bass punch is worthy of any top hifi.
Ive not wired up the stock sub as its not needed. Its just amazing. Apple car play is easy as well as just playing through bluetooth streaming off any phone. The hands free sounds like they are in the car with you.
My car is a vouge 4.4 petrol (plus gas) BMW early
Id put some photos up but they are on my ipad. Pin outs on the Lear stock amp is easily searched for the wires out. Ive left the 2 connectors which went to the old head unit under the centre speaker on the dash so that i can connect the old unit to access the clock or car computer if needed.
My rangie came with alpine screens in the headrests so they are wired up to enjoy DVD and any other media on the iphone.
The amp was £130 and crossovers £84. Leads were around the £55. Front iso cage £12 . The head unit can range from £300 upto £600 for a good one. I got mine for a song. new fuse and a bit of software and is firing on all cylinders.

I quite like a bit of in car entertainment, although mine is totally stock, but you will have lost the interest of 99 % of the readership on LZ at the word Pioneer, the remaining 0.9% at ICE in the title !:)
Are you putting the original equipment in the for sale section ?
