In an hour je two I will be picking up my ‘74 two door RRC. And I am scared s—ess, for lack of a better rust related punn..
The love bugg had bitten me some time ago, and after some years in doubt, this week I took the plunge.
Only loaded with web knowledge I bought the dream, hoping for it not to turn into a nightmare.
My RRC was imported from GB about 2010. The steeringposition has been switched to the left. Furthermore it comes with a vague paper picture of it being body-off, somewhere in an GB shed, hence the stick-welded floorpanel.
A 2 mile push from where I live resides my new ‘best friend to be’, landy specialist http://www.4x4servicemesman.nl/ now on a three week holiday, alas no walk through of the general state of the car possible as yet.
So I will be trucking around first and see what I will run in to, with my 35litre LPG tank, won’t be able to stray too far from home anyway...

And will be taking up a course in metalworking and welding as an aditional hobby, with much pleasure.
It shure will be a long way from my regular car, an Audi A2 1.2tdi, so called 3L as it realy only uses up 1 liter of diesel to 33 km.
I am very much looking forward to this new adventure!!

Will do, I used to work producing entertainment shows in Holland. Starting up a youtube channel on Classic chores would be a fine idea I have been playing with. See what comes of it.

French dame, you come from Thirsk! That is where I visited James Herriot world, some years ago. I have long longed to become a vet because of the show, until my brain did not seem to be large enough, pitty. Would love to repeat a holiday we had in your region, driving our former Toyota Hiace diesel camper! Will come again if the RRC holds out, and the misses agrees (she preferrers the French sun, downer)

First things first, got to get to grips with the car a littke bit. Stuff I am comfortable with to start off with.
Thought I would do some rust protection on the bonnet. Appears to be a big bolt right through the centre of the bonnet,

causing the rust to hit. Will have to get a bit of new steel welded in there. I can angle grind, so make a square (had to look that one up) and patch, have it welded in. No good having a leak over the engine...


Found the pictures the former GB owner made!

Would that be a regular thing on a Range Rover? Plenty of view left, I suppose.

In the mean time she has had a nice spin around hihgways and byways. Got a bit worried about ratteling noises, appeared I had left the handbrake activated. Probably not such a good idea, have now learned what protest is made when forgotten

Rust in bonnet
Sticky brakes (rough clamps need a clean?)
Bulb with no high beam
Lack of doorlock key
Clean under carpets/soundproofmaterial
Look at seat reclining mechanism
LPG usage
Oil in carbs usage (ie. once every refuelling)
Oil level check

Check specialist:
Clonking when clutch released, specialy first gear
Engine type 3.5? Original.

And so on..
