Steam is starting to leak out of my ears. Twice I have tried to import my 1968 Landrover from UK to Ireland where I live. The problem is there is no chassis number on the chassis. The little aluminum plaques have been removed so all I have is the chassis number on the export document and no corresponding number on the vehicle. The import office here will not accept that, they need a number on the chassis. Any suggestions?

Having no VIN plate at all is a pretty obvious fault -- of yours. Why would you expect them to accept it???

There should be a metal plate, riveted or screwed onto the body somewhere. Sometimes on the inside of the rad panel or on the bulkhead infront of the gearstick.

That alone might be enough if it's present.

There should be the chassis number also stamped into the chassis leg by the dumb iron on the front of the vehicle. But of course, this is a bit that rots and is often replaced. Only option is to get the number stamped into the chassis.
