I know the alt subject has been covered over and over but i couldnt find anything on repair. ive seen the parts and kits available on ebay and was wondering if i should go down this route or just buy a new alternator.

the warning light came on the other night and it will charge slowely after startup but the smallest electrical usage sees it decline before rising really really slowely. i couldnt run headlights and drive put it that way, the volts just drop off to between 11-12

does this sound like worn brushes? ive checked cables, fitted a new belt and re tensioned. still the same.

any thoughts before i order a new alternator?

Fiddly feckers Alternators. I'd replace it cuz if you git a kit & it's no better you'd be pretty peesed, whereas if yer git a new'un & it dunt work (it happens) you've got some comeback t'git it replaced.

Int yer belt is it?

if you replace the innards then thats about all you'd be buying if you bought a new un.. as most new un's ar probably re-conned. it should take less than an hour to re-con the fooker yer self.

S'got bearing's an orl. It'd prob' do the doings............is it an A127 you got? i thort it was a 115 or a 133?

Guess I'm just a lazy sod & I like to have someone other than mesel' to moan at if sumat dunt work!

managed to find ford written on it :O

i also looked at the cables attached to the started motor. is this where the main brown goes from the alt? along with the other 2 browns? i managed to get the volts upto 13 with engine idle. these dropped to 12.75ish and kept creeping down with the main beam on. im assuming this isnt right.

around what V should the warning light disapear?

Cheers,

G
