can anybody tell me what size needles I need to fit to my su carbs on my 3.5 V8 now that I am fitting K & N cone filters for off road use?
Any help would gratefully received.
:) thanks

Have you modded the exhaust as well , in not I would think the standard needles would be ok and you would be able to richen the mixture ok by adjusting the jet position HTSH

No mods to exhaust. Sorry dont understand next bit. "you would be able to richen the mixture ok by adjusting the jet position HTSH". Please explain more.
Many thanks:)

The SU fitted to the v8 are Hif44 There are two adjustments you can make there is a slow running adjustment screw that adjusts the trhottle lever stop position ( moves the position of the resting stop )
The other is the mixture screw this is on the side of the carb usually covered by an anti tamper plug (usually blue in colour) By screwing this in (to richen) or out you can adjust the mixture datum point.
The fuel flow at any particular throttle opening is controlled by the needle position in the jet tube. The SU is about as good as it gets short of fuel injection :)

What vehicle and year is the vehicle the engine is in and is it a standard factory fit.Failing that on the carbs you should find a metal tag with a carb spec no.ie.FZX ????LH FZX ????RH
Let me know the details and I'll look up the corresponding needle codes for you.

The carbs and inlet manifold are I believe to be from a P5 or P6, which was fitted to my 2A, prior to changing it to an early 90s factory gold seal recon rangy engine, because of head and block problems.
The metal tag on the carbs are stamped AUD 521 L/R accordingly.
Many thanks for any info.:)

Back to the origonal question, do I need to change the needles to run K & N offroad cone filters or can I stay with those fitted?
Many thanks for your help:)

I don't know what you mean by off road filters ?

However I run a V8 in my series 2A with K and N filters using standard

needles as designated for use with the SU carbs fitted.

I bought them from paddocks, they were listed as cone filter for off road use.

I will fit them to my current set up and see how the V8 runs.

Many thanks again for all the info.
