Series 3 Need wiring help 2.25 Petrol

Long story short. My step daughter bought her Landy all wrong. It is in terrible shape. The engine quit running shortly after she bought and she took it to a local Land Rover "repair" shop in Charleston S.C. They tried to pull a scam on her so I retrieved the motor and the Landy and brought it back to my house in Florida. I'm a very seasoned shade tree mechanic and have rebuilt several cars including MG's, Mini's and hot rod cars and trucks. I had to purchase several parts for the Landy that went "missing" from the repair shop, Euro Pro, to include the radiator, motor mounts and clutch. They removed the engine so I have no real reference as to the wiring. The leads from the +/- leads from the alternator look like they go to a junction as well as the battery terminals. I can't tell which post is + and which is negative. Also the wiring from the distributor and to the oil filter housing. There is a green wire that was cut that comes from the left (passenger) side of the upper fire wall. I have attached pics. More questions to follow...

The two big termjnals on the solenoid, one should be connected to the positive of the batterya d the other to the starter motor, the brown wire on the solenoid connects to the ignition switch. On the second pic, both of those loom like oil pressure switches but maybe one is a temperature sensor. Mine doesnt look like that. The black wire on the coil is connected to the ignition switch and the other one goes to the contact breaker points. I dont know what the wire in pic 4 is. Im assuming the landy is negative earth.

Which side of the solenoid is positive?

I would guess the 1 on the left of your pic as it has another wire which may go to the alternator or somewhere else as a permanent live.

Looks like you have the push button type solenoid too:) does the button between the 2 terminal push?

The button does not push. The wires are there because I needed to organize them out of the way. The one on the right is red from the alternator.The one on the left goes to the firewall. Thanks for your help.

Solenoid don’t really care which is permanent live but obviously the other wires do.
Nearest to the battery route or starter can determine which is which for easiest route.
Alternator permanent live.
No idea what the other 1 is.

Shame it’s not a button:)

I have seen question on what terminal is which on the solenoid. Surely it doesn't matter as long as all the wires that were attached to the same terminal on the original are kept together and attached to same terminal of new solenoid. Maybe I'm not expressing this well but effectively the solenoid is a switch and as long as starter motor is attached to one terminal and battery (and ballast if present) to the other and ignition to spade exciter it doesn't matter which way round it is?? Or am I missing something?
