Back again…
Acquired a 99 2.5 diesel auto.
New service, brakes, in tank pump and running great..

Drove it 4 days no issues.
Other day she got hot and cut out..
I let her cool and made it home.

Radiator is was replaced before I got it..a Nissans Radiator.
New water pump, thermostat, fan was working ok..
Put it back together, flushed rad, heat on, idle ok, adding coolant etc..

Put cap back on and the rad hoses were getting very hard..
When idling no bubbles..

Any help greatly appreciated..

The thermostat and water pump I removed where ancient…
Fan sounded a lot better with the new water pump..
Clean egr, vehicle has buckets of power now..

But the rad hoses keep getting hard…

Is there a test kit I can buy to check the head..??
Thanks

It should roar like a tank on start up then go quiet then roar again when it gets hot.
just because its turning does not mean its working right.

Newspaper test - roll up a newspaper and slowly insert into the viscous fan. When cold it should stop the fan turning but as engine warms it should get more resistance and try to shred the newspaper. (Free when cold - locked when hot)

Careful to keep all fingers away and don’t wear a tie
