Need a block!

Well the saga continues....

My dead 300tdi needs either the block reconditioning or a s/h or recon short block.

Having the old one done will cost me a fortune as I'll have to get the garage to do it (no facilities here) and I'm already into them for £650

or

Just get them to plop another block in there and marry it with the new head I've already bought!
Can't belive I'm gonna have spent more in parts and labour than the f#*king vehicle is worth...

So does anyone know the best place for me to source a block for a 1995 TDI300?
