Hi folks. I have a RR 4.0 SE Automatic 1996. He has 280.000KM on it. I saw that oil level is very low. Is time to rebuild this engine????? The odor of gas that is come from exhaust looks like is not burning to good the fuel. It smell like burning oil to with the fuel.

Have a compression test done on your car
To test the rings and valves then you can see what condition it's in .

Test it first then you will not need to ask could just be a seal try topping up do you check regular or just when you feel like it .

With 280KMs on the clock I'd be surprised if the cam still has lobes! It's rare for a Rover V8 cam to last longer than 160KMs unscathed. As for oil burning, mine uses just under a litre per 1,000 miles (1,600 kms) after adding a bottle of Lucas oil stabiliser the oil consumption has dropped to practically zero.

Ok. So i have to use Lucas oil stabiliser for that oil consumtion??? And what kind of addetiv i have to use for valve??? Because i use LPG system and there is no addetiv or lubs on LPG.

When you say you smell gas is it the smell of unburnt gas or the smell that is common to all LPG engines?
If its unburnt gas then you probably have a leak somewhere
